Event Description
Love working with youth? Want to share your love for nature? This is the role for you! Join us on to become a Volunteer Educator for Lussier Family Heritage Center (LFHC). During this time you will learn more about LFHC, our staff and programs, tour the facility, learn more about your role as a Volunteer Educator, and practice your educator skills! We are currently we are only looking for volunteers to help with the two programs listed below.
- Lil’ Explorer Adventure - Tuesdays & Saturdays 9:15 am – 11:15 am.
Our Lil' Explorer Adventures program provide a space for young kids to use all five senses, be active in the outdoors and learn how to work together. Each session we will investigate a new theme through games, walks, crafts, stories and so much more! The 90 minute guided program will be followed by 30 minutes of youth-led free play with friends through our natural play area and jungle gym. Adult chaperones are required to attend this event with their child. - Learn to Fish & Fishing Summer Camp Programs - Variable in summer.
This is the program for them to learn some basics about fish, how to cast and catch fish at the all-accessible Jenni & Kyle Preserve. Staff will assist participants with removing fish and releasing them back into the water. This is the perfect program for youth that have no to minimal experience with fishing. Fishing equipment and instruction is provided.
The training will be run in two parts. The first part will be all interested volunteer educators to go over our programs and policies around working with youth under the Lussier Family Heritage Center. The second part of the training will allow individuals to become trained in one of the two programs above.
Volunteers interetsed in serving in these roles must commit to the following requirements:
- Willingness to work with youth
- Pass a background check yearly
- Complete a virtual or in-person check in with LFHC Staff
- Complete a Volunteer Educator Training (this training)
- Complete the MERGE DEI training on Better Impact within 6 months of your initial educator training (1 hour online)
- Continually meet the expectations listed in the Code of Conduct (you will receive this at the training)
- Complete Online Mandated Reporter Training (1 hour online)
