- Sunday, 02/04/2024 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Have you ever been interested in different kinds of snowshoes or wanted to make your own pair? Join teacher Laurie Hylen as she leads participants in creating their own unique pair of snowshoes .We will be following the Ojibwe style of snowshoes which are long and narrow, with both a tail and a pointed, up-turned toe. This is a two day event to complete the building of the snowshoes. Warm beverages and light snacks will be provided during each session.
Saturday February 3rd 9am - 12 pm
Session 1: Getting kits and materials prepared for building snowshoes.
Sunday February 4th, 12pm - 3pm
Session 2: Completion of lacing snowshoes and instruction for sealing them and adding binding for us.
While registering, please indicate your preferred snowshoe size according to the following guidelines, which include the weight of your body and any gear:
- Youth: age 6 to about 120lbs.
- Small: age 8 to about 140 lbs.
- Medium: 130 lbs. to about 240 lbs.
- Large:6’ tall and 210 lbs. and up.
As a rule, smaller shoes are easier to walk on. If close to a size break, choose larger shoes if you have long legs, wear a hefty pack, regularly break trail, or have light, fluffy snow. Choose smaller shoes for shorter legs, denser snow, or packed trails (even if new snow covers the old tracks).
Cost: $150 per pair of snowshoes
Registration will close January 1st for material ordering. We need a minimum class size of 8 participants.
