B3 Training: Bumble Bee Biology, Identification and Monitoring Workshop

Event Description

Join for a chance to learn more about Bumble Bees and our monitoring opportunities! This workshop will be led by Susan Carpenter, Native Plant Garden Curator at the UW-Madison Arboretum and is geared for adults. 

This workshop will include:

  • brief overview of native bees
  • bumble bee life history and biology
  • bumble bee ID and resources
  • photography and where to upload photos (Introduction to the Wisconsin Bumble Bee Brigade - WIDNR)
  • field time (weather permitting)
  • what to do if you find (photograph) B. affinis, B. terricola, and/or other WI Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN)

Please bring:

  • Camera (optional):  A macro setting is recommended. Point-and-shoot and phone cameras may work well for you.  Weather permitting, we will find and photograph bumble bees.
  • Notebook.
  • Your own snacks, coffee/tea, or water bottle, sunscreen, and a hat.

Please wear: 

  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Comfortable, breathable clothing 

Cost: Free

Registration is required and limited to 25 participants. Registration is open until June 15, 2024.
